Tuesday 5 November 2013 (Cup Day), Marysville Sculpture Garden, Marysville

To help support the Marysville Art Show (which was a sponsor of the Australian Steelband Festival in April 2013), Pans on Fire band members responded to a 48-hour call-up and played at the (temporary) Marysville Sculpture Garden on Melbourne Cup Day. Marysville was full of visitors on the day and were treated to two sets by the band (who used the opportunity as a replacement for practice that evening).

The Marysville Sculpture Garden was a new addition for 2013 to the Art Show, and generated a wide array of entries, many with a theme of recovery from the 2009 bush fires. The winning entry was "White Hot", a sculpture created by Dr. Lachlan Fraser (a member of Pans on Fire), depicting one of Lachlan's favourite sports, cross-country skiing (that's why he's known as Snow Doc), and created entirely of articles recovered from the ruins of the 2009 fires. An inspiring example of "recovery" in all senses of the word. Playing "Recovery" on the day carried just that extra amount of meaning for the band.
