Saturday 22 March 2014 - Alexandra Picnic Races, Alexandra (#88))

Hot Pans on Fire (the combined band) played once more at the Alexandra Picnic Races on Saturday 22 March. On a beautiful sunny autumn day, with an enthusiastic crowd (some a bit too enthusiastic!), the band played five short sets in between the local races and the races broadcast from Melbourne.

We thought we were off to a good start in Race 1 when the favourite's name was Swiss Flier. But despite a betting plunge in honour of our esteemed band leader, Swiss Flier was beaten by a short half-head. From there on, our band leader took a more relaxed attitude towards the races, as seen in the photo-finish mirror at the end of Race 4.
